Summertime is the best time of the year, so of course you want to make the most of it. Luckily, Orlando and the UCF area have tons of inexpensive options for you and your friends to take advantage of.

Here are six cheap and fun things to do around UCF over the summer:

1. Visit Lake Claire

Located on UCF campus, at the end of Greek Park Drive, the Lake Claire Recreation Center offers students all kinds of fun things to do. Whether you are looking for a quiet date spot or a relaxing place to hang out with your friends, Lake Claire is worth checking out. UCF students can even rent canoes and a variety of other equipment free of charge!

2. Hit the Trails

What’s better than going for a long bike ride on a beautiful summer day? Orlando has tons of great bike trails for students who want to get off campus and explore the city beyond. Some of the most popular trails include:

  • Seminole Wekiva Trail
  • Cady Way Trail
  • Orlando Urban Trail
  • Lake Underhill Trail

There are plenty more bike trails out there, too. So, if you are looking to have some good, clean fun on a summer day without breaking the bank, just hop on your bike and go for a ride.

3. Visit the Recreation and Wellness Center

If you want to get some exercise but the heat is just too much for you, don’t worry. The UCF Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC) has got you covered. The RWC is free for all students and offers a variety of amenities such as indoor rock climbing, a fitness center, two pools and much more. They even offer paid memberships for non-students in case you want to bring a friend or family member with you.

4. American Escape Rooms

Just half a mile from UCF main campus, American Escape Rooms is “a journey through the puzzles in a mysterious world and a truly thrilling race against time.” The concept is simple: you and your teammates enter a room and must solve various puzzles and challenges within a given time limit to escape. Visitors can work together in teams of 2 to 32 people and combine their intellects to escape in under the 60-minute time limit.

5. Explore Orlando’s Theme Parks

Summer is the perfect time of year to take advantage of the many theme parks Orlando has to offer. Fortunately, most, if not all, of them have a ton of water rides and indoor attractions to help combat that Florida heat. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Universal’s Islands of Adventure
  • Disney’s Magic Kingdom
  • Discovery Cove
  • Aquatica Orlando

There are many other options, too, so look around and see which parks look like the most fun to you. Many of them will offer discounts to Florida residents, so definitely ask about this if you plan on going.

6. Visit the Arboretum

If you’re a nature lover and haven’t been to the UCF arboretum, you are seriously missing out.

The UCF arboretum is located just east of the main campus, encompasses 82 acres and includes over 600 species of plantlife. There are several miles worth of walking/biking trails as well.

Making the Most of Your Summer

You don’t have to clean out your bank account to make the most of your summer days. Orlando and the UCF area have all kinds of fun activities for students on a budget. Whether you are a nature lover, a fitness freak, or a theme park enthusiast, there are all kinds of ways to have fun on a budget.
